The Hon’ble High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh today putting alive the petition, adjourned the hearing of the Public Interest Litigation challenging the felling of old, mature trees in the historic Suharawardi Udyan in the name of implementing the “†mvnivIqv`©x D`¨v‡b ¯^vaxbZv ¯Í¤¢ wbg©vY (3q ch©vq). The Hon’ble Court passed this adjournment order based on the submission of learned Attorney General (AG) that meanwhile further felling old, mature trees in the historic Suhrawardi Udyan has been suspended by the Ministry with a view to resolve the contentions amicably through discussion with the the petitioners, environmentalists, experts.
A Virtual Division Bench presided over by Madam Justice Farah Mahbub, and Mr. Justice S.M. Maniruzzaman. Senior Advocate Fida Kamal, Adv. Syeda Rizwana Hasan appeared for the petitioner. Attorney General, AM. Amin Uddin appeared for the state. The petition was filed by the five Human Rights Organization namely, Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA) , Bangladesh Legal Aid & ServicesTrust (BLAST), Nijera Kori, Association for Land Reforms and Development (ALRD), Ain o Shalish Kendra (ASK), Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) and Architect Mubasshar Hussain.
